As the wedding draws closer there's so much on your mind, and now you have wedding presents to think about too! Relax, these guidelines will take all the guesswork out of gifting - for you and your guests. ...
It's amazing just how many things you need to set up a home, and it's only natural to feel overwhelmed at the thought of compiling a list of all the items you'll need. One of the most convenient ways of getting some inspiration is to go online and browse through a few specialised wedding sites, many of which offer facilities whereby you can print out a detailed bridal registry checklist. Registering a list of items with a specialist or department store ensures that you receive the items you want and avoid duplications. It is especially useful if you have already set up home together, as it gives you and your fiancé the opportunity of receiving items that you still need, or have always wanted. Some stores have a bridal specialist who will be able to advise you on compiling your register, and help you decide on a selection of gifts. Some more upmarket stores offer online gift registries, so all your guests have to do is click on the site when they're ready to track down the perfect present. Table gifts Often called bonbonieres, wedding favours are gifts that are bought for the wedding guests and placed on reception tables next to their place cards. While traditional wedding favours consist of net posies filled with sugared almonds, today there are a host enticing table gifts from which to choose, as well as innovative packaging and accessories to match your wedding theme. For more information consult the Reception Décor section under The Big Event. Party time Always popular, and very practical, a kitchen tea can be in the form of a morning or afternoon tea party, or a get- together after work with drinks and snacks or supper. The function is arranged and hosted by the chief bridesmaid, close friend or family member a week or two before the wedding and attended by female friends and relatives of the bride. Gifts are generally kitchen-related, and can range from can openers to designer cookware. If you, or your partner, are an aspiring Nigella Lawson or Jamie Oliver, a pantry party will get you off to a gourmet start. The list and choice here is endless, from local and imported foods, wines and cheeses and canned or bottled delicacies, to fine wines and champagnes, different varieties of coffees and teas, spices, sauces, nuts and biscuits... and don't forget the cookery books!
