Deciding on a wish list of fabulous gifts for you and your fiancé is sure to be a highlight in the run-up to the wedding, and gift registries are a popular option if you want to make sure you receive exactly what's needed to set up home together. Registri...
Before compiling your list, take an inventory of what you and your fiancé already own. You also need to think about colours and designs, and whether your styles are formal or relaxed when it comes to entertaining. An emerging trend overseas is to ask for more unusual gifts – perhaps a contribution towards the honeymoon, or even a donation to the bride and groom's chosen charity. Where you decide to register your gift list can be almost as important as what you decide to put on it. Department or specialist stores are the tried and trusted route. Make sure that the store you choose offers a wide enough range of gifts – both in price and style – and find out exactly what services they offer, such as a bridal specialist, online facility, gift wrapping or delivery, and a registry card to include with your wedding invitation. It's also wise to choose one that has branches throughout the country. There are also an increasing number of online registries, which are great if you have friends coming from abroad, and really convenient for you too, because gifts can be chosen from a virtual showroom after hours or even while you're at work. Thank-you letters should be sent out as soon as you get back from honeymoon – hand-written is best, and the note should come from both the bride and groom. Keep a record of the gifts you receive for your wedding and kitchen tea, including names and comments to help you compose something appropriate.
