Getting there with flair PDF Print E-mail
You're going to the chapel and you're going to get married, but how are you going to get there? Arriving on time, and in style, is simply not negotiable on your wedding day! ...
You may have been guilty of keeping your future husband waiting while you made yourself look beautiful before a date, or even before you said "yes" to his proposal of marriage, but keeping him waiting at the altar, or your guests waiting at the reception venue because you are late, just won't do.

On the move

Once you've decided on the method of transport that is most appropriate for the type of function you have in mind, you can then make arrangements through either family members, influential friends, or professional hire or tourist companies. Don't leave arrangements too late though, or you might find that the vintage car or limo you set your heart on isn't available on the day. It may be wise to have a back-up plan, just in case.

You also need to take factors such as where and when the ceremony is taking place and the theme of the day into account. A bicycle made for two, or a horse and wagon may be novel ideas if you are getting married on a farm, or in a peaceful country setting, but wouldn't be sensible, or practical, in a built-up area in rush-hour traffic!

On the other hand, a gleaming imported luxury model stretch limousine, garlanded with ribbons and flowers, would be perfect for a formal evening wedding. Don't forget that the vehicle of choice is often used as a prop in the photographs as well.

Who rides with whom?

It is customary for the main car to whisk you and your father off to church, with a second car taking your mother and perhaps the bridesmaids and/or flower girls, while the third is reserved for the groom and his best man and perhaps attendants.

After the church ceremony the newly weds are driven to the photograph session or to the reception venue in the main car, with your parents travelling in the second car, and the bridesmaids and groomsmen in the third.

Motor shows

Using a vehicle belonging to a friend or family member is convenient and cuts costs, and you may be lucky enough to be offered a cherished sports, vintage or impressive late-model car. At the same time, there is nothing like making a grand celebrity-style entrance.

One of the latest trends is to use a dashing 4x4, or hire a luxurious Rolls Royce, Model 'T' Ford or a racy sports car to make a statement! Vintage cars may be hired from members of Vintage Car Clubs.

An imposing chauffeur-driven stretch limousine is not only the last word in glamour, it is also the safest way of making sure you get to your chosen destination, both before and after the wedding. This goes for your guests too, as the limousine will also pick them up from the airport or their hotels.

One local tour company offers a glamorous white Mercedes S-Plus stretch limo that will accommodate most members of the bridal party and accompany you in grand style to the various events throughout your day.

You also have the option of choosing magnetic signs for the doors, such as wings, and ribbons for decorating the car. If you want, they will even arrange for floral decorations. Soft drinks and cooling facilities are provided on board, but you'll have to take your own bubbly, as carrying alcohol is against the law.

A hired vehicle has to meet certain criteria, so check that the company you are dealing with has a legal carrier permit and passenger liability insurance.

Come fly with me

If you want all your flights of fantasy to come true, how about taking a helicopter? Imagine the entrance you will make, sweeping down from the skies in front of the guests at the church or reception, and arriving in a blaze of glory! A helicopter can also be practical, especially if you're getting married near, or on, the beach, and also looks wonderful in wedding photographs.

It is said that there is nothing quite like the freedom and relaxation you feel when you are flying in a 'whirly bird', or the sense of exhilaration when you come down to earth. Just make sure to ask the pilot to either shut down the aircraft and bring the blades to a standstill, or wind the revs down, so you don't get completely blown away and ruin your hairstyle and veil.

A horse and carriage

There are many other novel forms of transport. If you or your groom has a passion for a certain sport or pastime, like golf, motor bike racing or flying, or just want something different, you could opt for a golf car, tractor, small plane or motorbike, while confirmed romantics really could go for the horse-drawn carriage through the countryside. Whatever your choice, just get to the church on time!
